The Metro Tunnel Creative Program and Melbourne International Jazz Festival proudly present Arden Sounds. Featuring new compositions by three creatively fearless ensembles, this festival-only experience breathes life into one of our city’s much-anticipated new Metro Tunnel stations—Arden Station in North Melbourne—before it officially opens to commuters in 2025.
Embark on a fascinating and unexpected journey under the arches and through the station’s concourse, where you will hear original works by artists Allara, the Brandee Younger Trio (US), and Invenio, inspired by the station’s distinctive architecture and acoustics.
A natural storyteller, Allara’s sound is unique and soul-stirring. Using a double bass and loop station at the core, she harnesses hard-hitting spoken word, taking the listener on a journey reflecting cultural, spiritual and environmental empowerment.
Like harpists Alice Coltrane and Dorothy Ashby before her, Brandee Younger has made a career of showcasing the role of the harp, a classical instrument dating back to antiquity, in contemporary music genres such as jazz, R&B, and hip-hop.
Under the direction of award-winning composer and vocal artist Gian Slater, acclaimed vocal ensemble Invenio features fifteen of the most exciting and forward-thinking creative vocalists in the country. Their singular aesthetic and performance approach creates an expansive, celestial sound world that showcases the human voice with a deep and natural emotional immediacy.
Join us in an exclusive preview of this beautiful new station, with a look and sound that will never be replicated. No myki needed.
