MIJF Congress: Accessing International Markets

Australia is the 6th largest music market in the world with incredible local talent, but how do we ensure audiences abroad hear our music? This panel investigates what opportunities Australian artists can explore in other territories, including touring, promotion, publishing and marketing. Gain insider knowledge from artist managers such as Si Gould (Hiatus Kaiyote) and Jeremy Furze (The Teskey Brothers) on how they built audiences, created international tours and managed album release campaigns. Melanie Pose shares tips on utilising support from organisations such as the Victorian Music Development Office and her experience developing international partnerships. Plus, Dom Alessio from Sounds Australia breaks down international showcases such as Jazzahead and shares how to get the most out of trade partnerships. Meet the Panelists

Jeremy Furze – Artist Manager/Applejack Music
Jeremy Furze is founder of artist management and events company Applejack Music. He has worked in the music industry for over fifteen years including roles at record labels, venues, tour management companies, financial firms and publicity agencies. Over the past four years Jeremy has worked as a full-time artist manager with a roster that includes Little Quirks, Liz Stringer and Grammy-nominated/ARIA winning band The Teskey Brothers. Jeremy also co-owns live music venue The Bridge Hotel in his hometown of Castlemaine.

Si Jay Gould – Founder/Director Wondercore Island
Si Jay Gould is the founder and director of Melbourne label, management and events company Wondercore Island, known for releasing ‘outside the box’ music such as garage-rock, rap to exotica. Wondercore released records by Jaala, Sampa The Great, Clever Austin, Vulture St Tape Gang, The Sweet Enoughs and Superfeather. He currently manages the multi–Grammy Nominated band Hiatus Kaiyote, who released their third album Mood Valiant on Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label. He is currently based between Brisbane and Sunshine Coast where he is trying to surf as much as possible.

Dom Alessio – Digital Export Producer, Sounds Australia
Dom Alessio is a renowned champion of Australian music, a writer and producer, a former broadcaster, occasionally a DJ but always a lover of dogs. He is currently the Digital Export Producer for SOUNDS AUSTRALIA, leveraging curated digital services and promoting local artists to international markets.

Melanie Pose – Music Manager, VMDO
Melanie Pose is a senior manager with more than ten years’ experience in the arts, music and festivals sector. Melanie has worked at a senior leadership level in general management, curation, programming and producing across a number of critically acclaimed and commercially successful events. These include Melbourne Festival, the Melbourne International Jazz Festival (MIJF) and the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF). More recently, Melanie has worked as an independent consultant on a number of major music and arts projects across Australia.

Since March 2020, Melanie has been the Program Manager at the Victorian Music Development Office (VMDO), supporting the development and delivery of key initiatives for the music industry. Melanie has also played a central role in the establishment and opening of Music Market at Collingwood Yards (December 2021). Melanie is a current Board Member of Speak Percussion.
