Australia / Japan
Thursday 8 June
The “Ellington of free jazz”, thrilling Japanese pianist Satoko Fujii and Australia’s own Alister Spence present the world premiere of Kira Kira (‘shine’).
Commissioned through the MIJF’s International Exchange Program, this startling and inventive new work explores the intersections of contemporary Australian and Japanese improvisation. Fujii and Spence are joined by a specially-formed ensemble of Australian and Japanese improvisers for a brilliant display of collective music making, energy and beauty.
Please note. This will be a quartet performance, not quintet as previously advertised.
