Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles
Wednesday 7 June
A core member of Grammy Award-winning jazz-funk-fusion group Snarky Puppy, Hammond B-3 organ virtuoso Cory Henry brings his groove-laden outfit The Funk Apostles to Melbourne for a must-see Festival Exclusive.
Starting on the organ at just two years old and competing onstage at the Apollo Theatre at age six, Henry’s meteoric career has seen the multi-instrumentalist and producer work with everyone from Aretha Franklin, P.Diddy and Lalah Hathaway to Derrick Hodge, Robert Glasper and Nas – winning a host of new fans recently after guesting with The Roots on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Steeped in gospel, jazz and soul roots, Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles deliver a blisteringly hot combination of retro and future funk, from Marvin Gaye and Prince via their own originals.
In Henry’s own words: “We are on our way. Tell Everybody. How many bodies? Everybody!”
