Alister Spence is recognised as one of Australia’s most original, distinctive contemporary jazz pianists/composers. With a performing and composing career spanning more than 25 years, his wide-ranging talents have led him to perform with and compose for some of the world’s most respected artists in the areas of contemporary music, improvisation, film and theatre.

Rafael Jerjen is a nationally recognised bass player, composer and sought after sideman. Born in Basel, Switzerland, he moved to Australia with his parents at age 6. He graduated from his Bachelor of Jazz with first class honours, majoring in performance on double bass from the Australian National University. These days, he resides back in Switzerland and plays with trio, MaxMantis. We caught up with Rafael ahead of their MIJF appearance.
