How did the Steve McQueens come about?
We came together in 2013. Singapore’s music scene is pretty concentrated and contained, but we’ve got a variety of things happening here. It was really about like- minded creatives coming together to make the art that we wanted to.
Who are your biggest influences?
Billie Holiday, Amy Winehouse, Thelonius Monk and Stevie Wonder!
Who’s on the top of your playlist at the moment?
That’s got to be Billie Holiday. She just does it for me, always.
Favourite way to unwind post gig?
It really depends- but mostly I do love hanging out with the band, we laugh about tons of things and topics that are completely irrelevant.
What’s something we may not know about you?
I’ve always wanted to be an astronaut! I love the idea that we’re just tiny organisms on this planet, and I do wonder what’s really out there beyond earth, beyond our solar system and the millions of galaxies after. So much to explore and to be in awe of!
What are you most looking forward to about coming to Melbourne?
I’m most looking forward to checking out a lot of new music! I’ve been hearing of how amazing the music culture is in Melbourne, and I can’t wait to experience that! And also, the coffee.
See Ginny perform with The Steve McQueens as part of a double bill with the Brenton Foster 6tet at Darebin Arts & Entertainment Centre on Friday 2 June. More information here.
